Wastage of 90 lakh litres of water daily

Mysore, June 3- The Water Supply and Sanitary Group of MATF has alleged that about 90 lakh litres of water (approximately 2 MGD) is being wasted every day when the city was facing acute water scarcity.

The Group Convenor Mr. M. Lakshmana, in a press release, alleged that the water pumped from the river-bed at Hongalli to the Booster Pumping Station in Belavadi Industrial Area is not being pumped to Vijayanagar Reservoir properly as the 1000 hp motors were not functioning to their full capacity due to bad maintenance.

Mr. Lakshmana said, the group led by him, during an inspection yesterday, noticed about 90 lakh litres of water being released into open drain as the motor was unable to pump the water towards Vijayanagar Reservoir.

The water, being wasted daily, is sufficient to cater to almost 60,000 people per day.

He has urged the authorities to approach the Concept Engineers, dealers of the pumps (there are two, one being a stand-by) for necessary repair so that the maximum capacity of the pumps is utilised.

The Group consisted of Dr. S.A. Prasad, Er. M.N. Balaji, Mr. P.M. Bhat, Er. Dayanand and Dr. M.G. Narayan.—MRS
