Vali and Tiger 'Masti' recovering in Zoo

Mysore, July 20 - The chimpanzee in Chamarajendra Zoological Garden here, Vali, who had sustained a broken leg in an accidental fall from tree-top recently in the zoo premises has progressed in his health responding to the medical treatment, according to Zoo Director Mr. Kumar Pushkar.

He told Star of Mysore that two city doctors Dr. Sundar Raj and Dr. Nagabhushan were keeping a daily check on Vali's condition and were providing the necessary medical treatment. The bandage on Vali's broken leg would be taken off in a month's time, Mr. Pushkar said. Another X-ray of the broken leg would be taken before removing the bandage and he would not be allowed to walk before he fully recovered, he added.

Masti recovers

Tiger 'Masti' who had sustained injuries after being caught in the unlawful jaw-trap had also recovered his health, he disclosed. Antibiotics and pain-killing medicines were being given enabling the big cat to be lively, he explained.

The death of four-year-old tigress 'Shanthala' that died in the Zoo recently was due to blood clot, Mr. Pushkar disclosed.

Specimens were sent to Cattle Health and Biosciences Research Centre, Bangalore, to find the cause of Shantala's death. The report had since been received and it was revealed that stomach ulcers and haemorrhage caused the death of Shantala he explained.-BRS.
