Mysore, July 13- Governor Mrs. V.S. Rama Devi today called for uniformity
in the treatment of Ayurveda system in the country.
Inaugurating the silver jubilee celebrations of Kannada monthly magazine
Vaidya Vartha, dedicated to the promotion of Ayurveda system, at Rajendra
Bhavan here this morning, the Governor noted that the treatment differed
from region to region.
While practitioners in Himachal Pradesh claim that the medicines they
prescribe was original as it was prepared by herbs grown in the region,
the practitioners in Karnataka claim their medicines to be original, she
said.
Mrs. Rama Devi also urged the professionals in the field to conduct more
and more research for the standardisation of the system.
The Governor said that the State Government had recognised the importance
of Ayurveda and was making all efforts to promote the system. She
suggested the Government to give more attention to grow herbal plants.
She also advised the Ayurveda practitioners to enlighten the people about
the contents of the medicines as there is a growing interest about the
system.
The Governor released the special issue brought out to mark the occasion.
Silver Jubilee Committee Chairman Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan welcomed. Editor
of the magazine Dr. M.G.R. Urs conducted the programme.
The Governor felicitated Dr. Guruswamy, Dr. Chennabasappa, Dr. Bhaskar,
Dr. C. Sharath Kumar and Dr. Shantharam Prabhu for their contribution to
the system.
The Governor, who arrived at the Government House from Bangalore at 11 am,
proceeded to Rajendra Bhavan. She will return to Bangalore after attending
a programme at JSS Medical College in Bannimantap.—MRS&BLU
