Selvakumar takes charge as Corpn. Commissioner

Mysore, July 6- Mr. S. Selvakumar took over as the new Commissioner of Mysore City Corporation yesterday. The outgoing Commissioner Mr. N. Jayaram handed over charge to him.

Mr. Selvakumar, an IAS officer of Karnataka cadre, hails from Tamil Nadu. He has undergone probation at Bagalkot, and has served as Assistant Commissioner of Sakleshpur. He has rendered services as Planning Officer, Coastal Environmental Management in Mangalore and as Officer for Asian Development Bank projects in Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation.

A function was held yesterday in the Corporation office to bid farewell to the outgoing Commissioner Mr. Jayaram and to welcome Mr. Selvakumar. Mayor Mr. T.B. Chikkanna presided.

Mr. Dakshina Murthy, ruling party leader spoke. Mayor Mr. Chikkanna praised the outgoing Commissioner for his significant contributions to the administration of the Corporation.

Joining the Mayor in recalling the good work of Mr. Jayaram, former Mayor Mr. B.K. Prakash also lauded him for giving an efficient and clean administration inspite of the pulls and pressures.

Mr. Jayaram in his reply, observed that for the Commissioner to show tangible results, he should hold the office for at least two years. It would be an exaggeration to say that one has achieved much in a very short stint, he added.

He reminded that the public come to the offices with a lot of expectation from its officers and so it is the duty of both officers and staff as well as the elected representatives to see that their grievances are redressed.

Mr. Jayaram observed that while developmental work, in the city, road repairs etc., may be bogged down due to lack of funds, no money is really involved in listening to and redressing genuine grievances of the public. Several Corporators also spoke.

Mr. N. Jayaram, former commissioner of City Corporation,has been transferred to the State Secretariat at Bangalore and posted as the Jt.Director of Municipal Administration.
